Bank Branch Register

The bank branch register database captures the branch details of all Association member banks, irrespective of whether they are currently open or have been closed in the past. As the details of the branches change from time to time, this database is updated on the first of every month. As some organisations upload this database to assist with the running of their business, it is provided in two different file formats: Text and Microsoft Excel. If you are using this information for payments-related software, please ensure that you regularly update the software with the latest version of the register.

To better understand the details of each data field, a table is attached which adds a short description of some data fields, and also details the file format (i.e. size etc). If you have any questions regarding the bank branch register, please contact your bank.

Code of Banking Practice

The purpose of the Code is to record and communicate to the public the minimum standards of good banking practice that Members of the New Zealand Bankers' Association will observe to maintain good relationships and communication with customers.

In addition to the Code, The New Zealand Bankers' Association has developed a set of voluntary guidelines to improve access to banking services for the elderly and disabled people. The guidelines were developed with input from organisations representing the elderly and disabled communities and the Human Right Commission.

NZBA Risk Management Documentation

In April 2007, the NZBA adopted revised risk management documentation, updating its 2000 documents. The NZBA documentation is designed primarily for use by New Zealand banks with their counterparties. However, in practice, the NZBA documentation has evolved into a market standard that has been adopted by both bank and non-bank New Zealand counterparties.

PIN Entry Devices

The New Zealand Bankers' Association, together with Paymark Limited and EFTPOS New Zealand Limited, developed the EFTPOS standards to ensure the ongoing integrity and robustness of the EFTPOS payment system. The EFTPOS standards were implemented in May 2006 and can be made available to organisations involved in the EFTPOS industry subject to the completion of a confidentiality agreement. Please contact the Association if you would like to obtain a copy of the standards.

The standards cover a number of areas in relation to EFTPOS, including PIN Entry Device Security Standards. Below is the current register of PIN Entry Devices that are certified for use in New Zealand.

To obtain certification of a new or modified PIN Entry Device please contact Paymark Limited, EFTPOS New Zealand Limited or the Association. You will be required to complete the PED Certification Checklist on the link below.

Please note that in order to provide greater consistency with the PCI International Standards, the Association is notifying terminal vendors and switches of the pending move from 1.3 PCI PTS (Pin Transaction Security) to 2.1 PCI PTS (previously known as PCI PED) which is effective from 1 April 2010.

Current certified NZBA PCI PEDs 1.3s can continue to be deployed into the New Zealand market until further notice.
