Karen Scott-Howman

As Regulatory Director, Karen advocates on regulatory and policy matters affecting the banking industry.

Karen joined the New Zealand Bankers’ Association in December 2009. She works closely with member banks and other financial sector organisations to develop industry positions on emerging policy and legislation.

Karen is a senior commercial lawyer, with previous experience working at Chapman Tripp in Wellington, and leading law firms in Canada and Australia.

Karen has worked in both private and public sector roles and has broad commercial, public and media law experience as well as a keen understanding of policy development, administrative and regulatory processes. She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from Victoria University of Wellington in 1993. She was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 1994.
